Oman adopt a different approach

Why did Oman adopt a different approach from its Arab neighbors during the Iran war?

Most Gulf Cooperation Council countries have hardened their stance on Tehran during the ongoing war between the United States and Israel. But Oman is different.

The country, which has long played the role of mediator between Washington and Tehran, has remained neutral during the war and maintains a unique position in the region.

While other Gulf countries have adopted a more aggressive and threatening tone against Iran, Oman has maintained its traditional foreign policy of being a ‘friend to all, an enemy to none’.

Due to this stance, Oman has emerged as a critic of the US and Israeli campaign in the Gulf Cooperation Council, calling it an ‘illegal war’ and demanding its end.

Oman is the only country in the council that has clearly declared that it will not join the war, even after its territory was attacked.

This behavior has left Oman as the last credible diplomatic path to reaching a ceasefire with Tehran in the region.
